100+ lives lost
2,200+ homes in West Maui and Upcountry destroyed
12,000+ people displaced
In response to the devastating August 2023 wildfires, we launched Eye of the Needle Holistic Living; a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization supporting education, sustainability, and cultural programs on Maui.
Recovery and rebuilding will take many years. Water from Air Generators are a renewable and abundant source of clean drinking water extracting humid air directly from the atmosphere before condensing, purifying, and cleaning it with no need for plumbing or a water source.
Our initiatives include bringing Water from Air generators to areas where infrastructure has been destroyed or compromised by melted water pipes and toxins leaching into the groundwater and contaminating the local system. Here’s an example of a 100-gallon/day generator at the Pukalani Church of the Nazarene that is running on solar and providing fresh drinking water for the Upcountry community.
Another program looks toward our keiki’s health and future and will bring Water from Air generators to all the schools on the Island. This will help in eliminating excessive plastic water bottle storage, reducing micro-plastic toxicity, and giving our keiki a reliable and safe water supply while Maui recovers and rebuilds. Read about our Pilot Project in the Maui News. And this is what it means to the school.
Another project in development is an educational prototype of a turn-key, tiny-house-on-wheels that is completely off-grid with no need to connect to our fragile County infrastructure. This will run on solar, a 58-gallon/day Water from Air generator, Hydraloop gray water device and Cinderella Incinerating Toilet. There has been a lot of interest expressed by fire survivors awaiting permitting to rebuild on their land and farmers looking to provide housing for their workers.
Your tax-deductible contribution today will directly support our sustainability and educational efforts and help direct Maui toward a more hopeful and resilient future. If donating is not right for you at this time, please consider sharing this with your friends and family. Mahalo nui loa for your help.
Please note we do not rent, share, or sell any donor contact information (address, phone, email) with third-party organizations. Learn more about our privacy policy.
